Vessel modeling
In the human circulatory system there exist large arteries and veins (of diameter ranging from 1 cm to 2.5 cm), medium-size vessels (1-10 mm) and the small ones (< 1 mm). On the other hand, in-plane resolution of images acquireed in MR scanners reaches the limit of 0.4 mm × 0.4 mmm. In routine examinations voxel size is even larger and ranges the value of 1 mm3. Therefore, the constructed vessel models are limited to the large and medium scale. The desgined models have relatively simple geometry, but they simultaneously incorporate characteristic lesion structures, such as narrowings and aneurysms. Below, sample models are presented. These synthetic vessel structures were used to create the template database of MRA images for the the need of validating vessel segmentation methods. Click on a selected model, to zoom it in.
